WHAT IT IS: theSkimm is a daily email newsletter that boils the news down to a one-pager. The two founders, Danielle Weisberg (shout out to a fellow Chicagoan!) and Carly Zakin were NBC journalists in their prior life and left to start their own media entity. Their motto: “We read. You Skimm.”

WHY WE LIKE IT:  theSkimm is our go-to quick read every morning. It’s easy to use and perfect for mobile. We are huge fans! Condensing the day’s major news stories and breaking them down into easy-to-digest content is no easy feat, but we think these women are doing a great job. The tongue-in-cheek recaps are entertaining, but deal with weighty subjects, too.

Geared towards busy people, theSkimm is truly a time-saver. (Plus, you might just find out about a friend’s birthday since they post birthdays on the bottom of each newsletter.) Bonus: If you have older kids, tell them about theSkimm—they’ll think you are really hip!
